Resources needed to fund ALGSD’s charitable programs at their current level come primarily from the proceeds of the Assistance League® Thrift Stop located on University Avenue in Hillcrest. Used clothing, household goods, furniture, books and miscellany are accepted from community members and then prepared for sale by dedicated volunteers. All usable items are cleaned, laundered, ironed, mended, patched, polished, dusted, glued, vacuumed – whatever is needed – to insure that customers find great products at great prices. Items that cannot be resold are donated to other worthy charities in the city. An annual Treasure Bazaar and other smaller fund raising events, along with member dues and special gifts, provide the remaining available funds for community outreach. In order to expand programs to reach additional students and adults, Assistance League® of Greater San Diego solicits grants from other philanthropic organizations and individuals.
Donations are gratefully accepted during business hours and on Mondays from 10 to 2 when volunteers are present to assist you.
